Luka Doncic Files Petition Seeking Daughters’ Move From Slovenia Amid Custody Dispute

Luka Doncic has filed a Hague Convention petition seeking to bring his two daughters to the United States from Slovenia. The filing comes amid an ongoing custody dispute with his former fiancee.

Doncic addressed the situation in a statement to The Athletic.

“Nothing is more important to me than my daughters,” said Doncic. “I will do whatever it takes to make sure they have both parents present in their lives.”

The petition was filed in Slovenia, where local laws prevent it from being made public. The Hague Convention aims to secure the effective exercise of access rights to a child, according to the U.S. Department of State.

Doncic is in a custody battle with Anamaria Goltes, whom he dated beginning in 2016 and became engaged to in 2023. Both daughters currently live in Slovenia, where Doncic spends his offseasons.

Doncic had hoped to resolve the matter by Sept. 25. That deadline passed without an agreement with Goltes or a resolution through the Slovenian courts.

He returned to the U.S. last week ahead of Los Angeles Lakers training camp. The source said there is no guarantee when he will see his daughters during the season.

The dispute kept Doncic from playing for Slovenia’s national team this summer. In a May Instagram post, he said he was pursuing joint custody and had faced major obstacles in seeing his daughters over the previous eight months.

Goltes filed for child support and legal fees in Los Angeles in March but later withdrew that petition.

Doncic’s older daughter was born in the United States in November 2023 when he was still on the Dallas Mavericks. He left the Lakers for four days last December to be in Slovenia for the birth of his younger daughter.
