Tickets for LeBron James' potential final game at Madison Square are most expensive since Kobe Bryant's farewell

LeBron James is scheduled to play what could be his final game at Madison Square Garden against the New York Knicks on Sunday. If you want a seat there to watch, it’s not going to be cheap.

The average ticket price for the Lakers-Knicks game as of Thursday morning was $900, according to Gametime — the most for an NBA regular-season game since Kobe Bryant’s farewell on April 13, 2016, which was $1,049. The get-in price for Sunday’s game is $457.

James has not announced this is his final season but has admitted it’s certainly a possibility. While making his only regular-season trip to play his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday, he became emotional while watching a video tribute from the team before the game.

“I’m just trying to take everything in, not take the moments for granted,” James said. “Because it could be [my last season]. I obviously haven’t made a decision on the future, but it very well could be.”

James has delivered a number of memorable performances at the Garden, including a 52-point effort — his second 50-point game at MSG — when he was playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2009 that came two nights after Bryant scored 61 there.

Caitlin Clark will make her debut during the Lakers-Knicks game as part of NBC’s “Basketball Night in America” coverage.

Nets vs Nuggets Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NBA Game

Nets vs Nuggets Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NBA Game

The Denver Nuggets deserve more praise. Despite injuries to every single one of its starters, Denver sits just a game out of the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference. The Brooklyn Nets deserve no such praise.

My Nets vs. Nuggets predictions heap Denver’s praise largely on Jamal Murray.

Find out why in my NBA picks for January 29.

Nets vs Nuggets prediction

Nets vs Nuggets best bet: Jamal Murray Over 24.5 points (-112)

Jamal Murray has scored 24 points in back-to-back games, just the hook short of notching this modest prop.

But before that, he was playing some of the best basketball of his career, including clearing this prop in four of five games while shooting 56% from the field.

With Aaron Gordon sidelined tonight, expect Murray to return to that form, though he barely actually left it.

The Denver Nuggets need this from Murray. The West is crowded below the Thunder, with the next six teams within four games of each other. If Murray were not playing this well, Denver very well may be considering the Play-In Tournament as we approach the trade deadline.

Instead, the Nuggets can expect home-court advantage in the playoffs thanks to Murray shooting 43.9% from deep, averaging 7.5 assists, and scoring 25.9 points per game.

Nets vs Nuggets same-game parlay

Before his 0 of 6 showing from deep on Tuesday, Murray had hit at least three 3-pointers in 24 of 41 games. As the Nets continue to scuffle, look for Murray’s shooting to propel the Nuggets to their fourth straight win against the spread.

Nets vs Nuggets SGP

  • Jamal Murray Over 24.5 points
  • Jamal Murray Over 2.5 threes
  • Nuggets -6.5

Our “from downtown” SGP: Revenge of MPJ

While this is asking a lot of Jamal Murray, he is Denver’s only remaining genuine starter. A lot will be asked of him. The one thing that will not be asked of Murray is defending Michael Porter Jr., who has plenty of reason to want to inflict some pain on his old team.

Nets vs Nuggets SGP

  • Jamal Murray Over 24.5 points
  • Jamal Murray Over 2.5 threes
  • Jamal Murray Over 8.5 assists
  • Nuggets -6.5
  • Michael Porter Jr. Over 25.5 points

Nets vs Nuggets odds

  • Spread: Nets +6.5 | Nuggets -6.5
  • Moneyline: Nets +220 | Nuggets -270
  • Over/Under: Over 209.5 | Under 209.5

Warriors Identified As Team That Could Put Together Best Trade Package For Giannis Antetokounmpo

Warriors Identified As Team That Could Put Together Best Trade Package For Giannis Antetokounmpo

The Golden State Warriors are believed to have the best potential trade offer to the Milwaukee Bucks for Giannis Antetokounmpo if there’s a two-team deal to be made before the trade deadline. Antetokounmpo and the recently injured Jimmy Butler make the same salary, while the Warriors also retain all of their future first round picks outside of their 2030 pick.

“Now, what the Bucks have to do is look at who has done this the best,” said Brian Windhorst on NBA Today. “Who has been in this situation? Who should they mimic? Let’s just look back at 2019 and the Oklahoma City Thunder. They had to trade Paul George and Russell Westbrook. They prioritized far out draft picks and really good young players. They ended up getting picks that they still haven’t all gotten from the LA Clippers yet. And a future MVP in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. So that’s what they’re looking for.

“Don’t prioritize trades that bring in players that can help them now because the Bucks are in a position where they need to worry about this year’s draft pick. They need to tank the rest of the season. Improve this year’s draft pick and put themselves in position to rebuild as fast as possible.

“If they’re going to make a straight-up trade, you’re looking at teams that can give the most opportunities. The Golden State Warriors are a team that immediately rises to the top of the list as far as the teams that can make a straight-up trade with the Bucks. The Warriors hold all of their future draft assets. They can trade up to four firsts and swaps. Steph Curry is there. They have an immediate need for a star player. This is where this discussion begins is Golden State. And everybody else, I think, is going to have to beat a strong Golden State offer if it comes.”

Jayson Tatum Contemplates Return Timeline As Celtics Build New Identity

Jayson Tatum Contemplates Return Timeline As Celtics Build New Identity

Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum revealed he contemplates daily how his return from Achilles injury will impact the team’s established rhythm. The five-time All-NBA forward expressed concerns about integrating himself into a squad that has built a successful identity without him through 50-plus games.

Tatum discussed his thought process on “The Pivot Podcast” when asked about his potential return. The Celtics currently hold the second seed in the Eastern Conference despite his absence throughout the season.

“So there is a thought in my head, like, how does that work?” Tatum said. “Or how does that look with me integrating myself off the injury, 50, 60 games into a season? There obviously could be some challenges. And it is a thought: Do I come back? Should I wait? It’s something that I honestly, recently, in the last two weeks or so just kind of contemplate every single day.”

Jaylen Brown has thrived in Tatum’s absence with a 36.6 percent usage rate this season. That figure represents a career high and trails only Luka Doncic league-wide.

Brown has spoken multiple times about needing to sacrifice portions of his game in previous seasons. He now enjoys expanded freedom to showcase his complete skill set under the current system.

“I was discouraged a lot of times to take midrange shots,” Brown said recently. “At different points in my career, they literally told me not to. So now it’s like, Jaylen, you can take whatever shot you want.”

The Celtics rank second in offensive efficiency despite losing significant talent during the offseason. Boston has scored at a higher rate than last season when Tatum was healthy and available.

Payton Pritchard has emerged as one of the league’s most efficient isolation players. Young wings Jordan Walsh, Hugo Gonzalez and Baylor Scheierman have proven to be difference-making defenders, while newcomer Anfernee Simons has provided scoring off the bench.

Head coach Joe Mazzulla praised the team’s development this week while discussing the New England Patriots’ Super Bowl run. “I think you just take a look at a team that’s developed an identity over the course of the season,” Mazzulla said.

Tatum’s return will necessitate adjustments across the roster, including reduced minutes and touches for current contributors.

Koepka is excited to be back on the PGA Tour. It comes with nervousness over how he's received

Koepka is excited to be back on the PGA Tour. It comes with nervousness over how he's received

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Brooks Koepka was freed from the final year of his contract with Saudi-funded LIV Golf and the first person he called was Tiger Woods. Three weeks later, the PGA Tour created a path back for him that starts at Torrey Pines.

Koepka said Tuesday he can’t wait for the week to end because of all the attention. The gratitude of returning to the PGA Tour comes with the kind of nerves the five-time major champion rarely experiences — wondering that others think about him.

“It feels a little bit different,” he said ahead of the Farmers Insurance Open, his first non-major on the PGA Tour since he lost in the quarterfinals of the Match Play in March 2022. “I’m definitely a little bit more nervous this week just coming back. But it feels good. I’m super grateful to be back.”

Koepka cited the need to be closer to family as his main reason for wanting out of LIV. His wife announced in early October she had a pregnancy loss at 16 weeks.

Woods was partially responsible for Koepka’s path back, along with other player-directors on the PGA Tour board who worked with CEO Brian Rolapp in coming up with a plan for select players to return. Koepka is the first LIV defector, and it came at a price.

He is making a $5 million charity contribution (still to be decided with the tour), receives no FedEx Cup bonus money this year and has no access to equity shares in the PGA Tour for five years, a value the tour has estimated at $50 million and beyond.

He also can’t play the $20 million signature events until he qualifies on his own.

“I guess it’s a fresh start for me, which is cool,” Koepka said. “It’s just another chapter I guess in my book. I’m excited for that. I feel like my game’s in pretty good shape and I want to see where it’s at. Obviously this week is a little bit different. Would just like to get this week over and just feel like I can start playing golf again.”

Woods never contemplated going to LIV and disparaged those who did — “They’ve turned their back on what has allowed them to get to this position,” he said a month after LIV began — and he now is the leading player’s voice on the PGA Tour board.

Koepka said he’s always had a good relationship with Woods. Besides, he had never met Rolapp, who had been on the job barely six months. Commissioner Jay Monahan, who attended Koepka’s wedding a month before Koepka left for LIV in 2022, would have been next on his list.

“I felt like Tiger was somebody that I’ve relied on in the past for questions and answers and how to deal with things and I felt like that was maybe the most comfortable call for me,” Koepka said.

Woods has been among several players who supported the decision to let Koepka back in, saying it made the PGA Tour stronger and ultimately would raise value for players who have been receiving equity shares. “It’s a win for everyone,” Woods said earlier this month.

Scottie Scheffler, the world’s No. 1 player who shares the same manager as Koepka, also supported the decision.

“I think it’s good getting someone back on tour that want to be back,” Scheffler said last week. “Brooks had a desire to come back to the tour. The last few months he certainly had a large desire to get back to the tour, and I’m glad that Brian and the team and the board was able to find an avenue for him to be able to get back and start competing out here again.”

Still to be determined, at either Torrey Pines or next week in the Phoenix Open, is how golf fans receive a player who bolted from the PGA Tour after the 2022 U.S. Open for a rival league that was paying outrageous signing bonuses. Koepka once confirmed his was “nine figures.”

“Maybe I’m a little nervous about that as well, just to see how the fans respond to it,” Koepka said. “I hope that they’re excited. I hope that they’re happy that I’m out here.”

Koepka could not remember the last time he was at a tournament on Monday except for the majors. Just pulling into the parking lot was such a blur that he doesn’t recall whom he first saw. There were hugs with Billy Horschel and Harris English on the range.

And then it was off to the South Course to play the back nine. He played with rookie Marcelo Rozo. Joining them on the 18th tee were Akshay Bhatia and Matti Schmid, neither of them on the PGA Tour when Koepka left. Nearly half of the field in the Wednesday pro-am didn’t even have PGA Tour cards when Koepka left.

“There’s a lot of new faces,” Koepka said. “But excited to meet those guys and feel like I’m part of the tour.”

He returns to a PGA Tour in the midst of big changes. Woods leads the Future Competition Committee that is reshaping the schedule so that every event feels like a big one. There are 11 tournaments with prize money of at least $20 million, not counting the four majors.

Is it better than when he left?

“I’m two days in,” Koepka said with a smile.

Justin Rose answered that for him last week when asked about Koepka’s return.

“We’ve all benefited from this chaos in one way or another,” Rose said. “It’s been good for tour players in the sense the powers that be pushed a little harder in our direction with equity in the tour and prize funds.

“But we need a premium product,” he said. “And this is the first time we’ve had someone who moves the needle come back our way.”
